Get thee to a nunnery!
I'm reading Hamlet right now (well, not right now, obvs). To my absolute shock and surprise, I'm actually really enjoying it. Maybe it's just all the madness and angst and plotting? I don't know. But Bill, man, I've got to hand it to you: this is some good shit.

Anyway, I've interrupted my Shakespeare-ing because I need to share a thought I've been thinking:

I DO NOT WANT BSG TO BE OVER

I KNOW!!!! I just got into this show within the last year (thank you Netflix) and now it's over! This is the story of my fandoms. I'm always late to the party. : (

Yeah, I started watching at about the same time--I think I was through the third season in about January or February? I watch it all in about a week, I think, lol. I'm at least glad that I caught up in time to watch the entire fourth season as it actually airs. This show is just INSANE. Better late than never, I say.

Ugh, Hamlet. I read that in high school. And it is definitely one of Shakespeare's better plays, but it was also my English teacher's favorite thing ever written, so we spent two months on it. TWO MONTHS. I was so happy to take the midterm and get that book over with. A Tale of Two Cities still reigns supreme as my least favorite book-same class. Only book I ever used Cliff notes on.

Sheesh, I don't think I'd want to spend two months on anything, let alone ol' Bill. You have my sympathies. I've somehow managed to avoid Dickens (except for A Christmas Carol, of course. Oh, and Hard Times, which was short and really stupid).

I've leaned on Sparknotes quite a bit, I have to admit. And by 'quite a bit,' I pretty much mean 6/8 book read in my Victorian novels class last year. But I'm doing much better this year, so we won't talk about that.

Hamlet is amazing. You should see Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead and the 1996 film version of Hamlet afterwards!

Hamlet is so fierce! I didn't mind the 8 billion times I had to reread it for school cause it's so awesome. Like, you've got ghosts and drunk people and crazy suicidal girls and murderous uncles! What more could you ask for?

Lol, I doubt many Shakespearean scholars have referred to any of his works as "fierce." Haha.

This play cracks me up because, like Hamlet and Ophelia are the ones everyone's calling crazy, but really everybody is just nuts. It's just hilarious and also really tragic. Someone should do a modern retelling (that doesn't involve Ethan Hawke, I mean), because there is just so much about this story that feels modern, or at least timeless, you know?

Is it really that good? I have to read it next month for English and I'm not all that psyched at all.

Yeah, it's pretty fantastic. It still has all the annoying Shakespeare speak, though, which I still don't really understand. I'm basically reading the whole thing on Sparknotes because I can read the actual play and than the lines in modern English, scene by scene. It's way helpful.

I will be taking a 400-level all Shakespeare class next semester because the sophomore I'm friends with says it's easy and I need at least one 400 level English class to graduate. I hate Shakespeare. But if Hamlet's good, maybe it won't be completely horrible. I just got done with Spenser's The Faerie Queene and I liked that.

Hamlet's actually the first play of his I've liked, and we've read a lot this semester. (I almost liked Much Ado About Nothing, but the end is so stupid it ruined it for me. My prof told us that the point of Shakespeare isn't really the plot, but the language he uses. Sorry, buddy, but since I can't really understand 80% of the language he uses, I'm focusing on the plot.) There's all sorts of Shakespearean angst there for you to discover.

Huh, I think my prof's mentioned that a few times. Oh, hey, speaking of my prof--have I told you that he totally reminds me of Wilson? Like, looks-wise. From the cheekbones up he seriously looks so much like him I get distracted in class. If only his voice sounded like his, too. I'd, like, live at office hours.

I think maybe you told me he looks like Wilson cuz I told you my poetry professor last year looked like House and that's pretty amazing. House and Wilson moonlight as English professors at Michigan.

Speaking of House, wasn't that cat the most adorable thing ever? I loved that episode.
