I really don't know what I was expecting.
I found that sort of awful. The story could have been cool but the pacing was weird or something. I just didn't give a crap about Jackson or the chick. And all the Cybermen shit was ridiculous, especially the giant Cyberbot or whatever the fuck it was.  Basically, I NEVER WANT TO SEE ANOTHER CYBERMAN EVER AGAIN.

I'm sure everyone thought the same thing, but seriously:

Does every technological device have to be phallic-inspired? Seriously. It's just distracting.

On the bright side, Tennant was super attractive, but that's no surprise. I was sort of digging the air balloon guy, too, and Jackson's kid was absolutely adorable. So I guess there were some pretty people, at least.

So... remind me again why I was so excited about this episode?

Aww...I'm sad you didn't like it as much (but then again, I don't know how high my expectations really were going into it.)

I think RTD and the rest of the crew love phalli (that so doesn't look right, but it is.)

That little kid was precious. He was even more precious in the Confidential and I wanted to hug him after that.

Yeah, I think I was sort of unnecessarily hard on it, but I didn't really even have that much fun watching it. See, I'm lame: my main motivation for watching this show was always the Rose/Doctor dynamic. Donna and her awesomeness kept me going for a while, but now I'm worried that without a companion I love and, soon, without Tennant, I'm just not going to want to watch it anymore. I'm anticipating much sadness and rerun watching in my future.

LOL, seriously!

I'm sure that whoever is the eleventh doctor will keep us watching. As for the shippy dynamic, it wasn't what I watched for, so I suppose that it's different for me.

But maybe they'll be some new companion who wants to fall madly in love with him (or her.)

See, I was never particularly shippy while watching the show. I mean, I didn't even start reading anything more than friendship fic until the S4 finale. I just thought they were awesome and hilarious together. BP has great, engrossing chemistry with both Tennant and Eccleston. I suppose it's a good thing that Ten's regenerating, though, because I really don't want to have to accept him with a different companion, not after the heartache both Rose and Donna put me through.

My hope is that with Eleven, their relationship will be like Ten's with Donna. I really don't want them to sneak up on me with shippyness, like with what happened in the first two series. I know it's totally lame and immature and annoying to think like this, but my Who ship will always be some precarious mixture of friendship and love between The Doctor and Rose, and I really don't want to have to embrace him, even semi-romantically, with anyone else.

Maybe Eleven can be a woman? I think that'd be pretty badass.

I'd be all for more of a companion like Donna to The Doctor, with a mix of Martha thrown in (I like her, and always will.)

As for a female Doctor, I've read people asking for it. It'd be pretty badass and chance some of the dynamics which the show's had before. Who knows what'll happen though.

I was slightly disappointed with the episode also.
All the points you made were valid though, Jackson's kid was super cute as was the balloon guy, Jed? Zed? Something with an ed. And DT was wonderful as always. I'm really going to miss him.

Oh god, I know! I don't even know what I'm going to do when he's gone. Will I still like the show? This is the question I am afraid for answering.

So during the title credits when it tells you the episode's name is "The Next Doctor," I was like "Gee, thanks for reminding me that David Tennant is leaving the series." Seriously, the first half of the episode was a giant, constant reminder that the Doctor regenerates (rather frequently) and is completely accepting of his own deaths. (Remember Nine's "And that's okay. I hope it's a good one."?) Ten was ready to embrace someone who is SO OBVIOUSLY FROM THE START not the Doctor. Gleeful about it, almost. It was quite sad. As was the wooden screwdriver.

I, too, was really annoyed at the appearance of Cybermen. They are like Daleks now in that they have had far too many episodes centered around them. Although I really enjoyed Mercy. She was excellent. The only way I'd accept Cybermen coming back is if they looked and acted like her. Cuz she was pretty awesome. And that dress was amazing.

Okay, tell me this: did Rosita's voice not sound EXACTLY like Martha's? Huh? Huh? Distracting... But overall I enjoyed the episode. Probably because I haven't had new Who in far far far far far too long.

You have a dirty mind, Lindsay. I didn't notice anything off about those devices. But I must remind you that RTD is gay. Yeah.

I agree about Rosita's voice. I was like Martha part deux perhaps? But she was feisty and comedic like all of his assistants so I was willing to accept her.

SORRY SORRY SORRY! I stayed at my nonni's for a few days and they don't have internet.

I KNOW. All I could think about was the fact that Tennant's leaving soon and how depressed I am about that. And god, you're so right about all that. The Doctor needs some Prozac or something.

Seriously, they need to come up with some new aliens menaces. I'm sick of all these familiar faces. Although yes, I totally agree, Mercy was pretty badass. I was kind of annoyed with what her storyline looked like from a distance--woman breaks free from society and tries to take over the world and all the dumb men in it, promptly dies--but I can ignore that, I think. I'm just so fucking sick of Cybermen I could die.

OH DUDE YES. And she said something at some point that I swear was a line that Martha said at some point throughout the series and I was actually waiting for Martha to walk into the shot. I'm glad you thought so too, because I was worried I was being racist or something, lol.

How could you not noticed this?? Every device they come up with looks like a giant penis. And yes, you make a good point.

Happy New Years Eve! I am so, SO excited for the game tomorrow!

Happy Nearly New Years! I hope you had a good time drowning in delicious Italian food. I had Mac and Cheese today. Tomorrow will be a much better day.

Lol about your "racism." Part of the problem is that most black people in England speak with the same English accent as their white neighbor, who speaks with the same accent as their Indian neighbor, and so on... I'm not an expert, but I'm almost positive that Rosita and Martha share the same accent, so that just adds to their voice likeness. It's weird though because they don't look that similar.

This is a show for children, Lindsay. You don't need to point out all the giant penises that are slowly turning all good little English boys gay. How rude! (lol I love your screen capture of the Doctor expertly handling the device...)
